Wondering where to go next in your H+S professional development journey?

02 August 2023

If you need to deliver specialist H+S advice to your organisation, the NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) in Occupational Health and Safety is an invaluable, globally respected qualification. It's suited to those in the early stage of their career journey or anyone who has been in the industry for some time and wants to gain a formal qualification.

Studying for the NEBOSH IGC provides a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge and elevate your career prospects. You’ll be able help your employer to comply with the law and good practice, as well as guiding them towards a culture of health and safety excellence.

The course provides you with an excellent grounding in the principles and practice of health and safety management. It’s relevant to practitioners from all sectors and combines international standards with an understanding of the New Zealand business environment.

If you’re thinking about further study the NEBOSH IGC might be the ideal course for you. +IMPAC is a market leading H+S training provider and can advise you on the best professional development pathway for your goals.

What can you expect?

To succeed you’ll need to be prepared to commit significant time towards your study. The course runs over 10 days (2 x 5 day blocks) and has an open book and online exam, and off-course practical workplace assessment. In addition to about 80 hours of direct learning, you’ll need to allow for 20 hours revision and practice assessment during block weeks and another 30 hours of self-directed revision between courses and in preparation for the exam.

But achieving the NEBOSH IGC is well worth it. IMPAC Internship 2023 recipient and member of the Emerging Safety Leaders Network, Angela Betbeder, recently completed the NEBOSH IGC.

“Being internationally recognised I knew I would be gaining valuable skills potential employers would value and respect. It gave me a solid overview of what I could expect out in the field. There’s still a lot to learn but I know I’m starting from a strong position.”
